They are preparing for the new 1.2-liter turbo gasoline engines.
At the moment, preparations for the production of the new three-cylinder 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine, which begins at the end of the year, are taking place at Szentgotthárd, starting at the end of the year, said Zoltán Kaszás, spokesman for Opel Szentgotthárd Kft.
This engine will be "integrated" into existing production and will be produced in parallel with current engines. The spokesman emphasized that the reconstruction work is carried out mainly by their own specialists, engineers and maintenance workers, whose knowledge and engine-building experience are built on and long-term demand for their work.
The volume of production and related financial indicators have declined in recent years at the Opel engine factory in Szentgotthárd, said Zoltán Kaszás.
According to him, one of the reasons for this is the decline in the market demand for the engine types they produce, the decline in demand for diesel engines. The car market is constantly changing, and instead of traditional car types, the market has shifted towards leisure cars, the so-called "SUVs", which also affected the production of Szentgotthárd - he said.
He added that the future of the new turbocharged engine, which is the most important gasoline engine of the PSA Group, would clearly be the future for the new owners to build a solid foundation for the future of the factory in Szentgotthard.
Opel Szentgotthárd Kft., Which currently employs about one thousand people, produced 629 thousand engines in 2016, 486 thousand in 2017, and 313 thousand in 2018, the company's net sales in 2016 were EUR 171 million, in 2017 EUR 150 million, In 2019, it was € 119 million.
