The sports version of the Volkswagen ID.3 R, the company's lower-middle-class electric car, will soon receive a green sign.
Although the production of the Field ID.3 is yet to come, Volkswagen is said to be planning to produce a sports version of the car. The model, previously referred to as ID.3 R, will leverage the experience gained with the ID R prototype.
Instead of mounting an electric motor on the front axle and providing all-wheel drive, the model appears to be fitted with a single but higher-powered electric motor on the rear axle. We know this can be on the order of 300 horsepower, i.e. 50% stronger than normal ID.3.
300 horsepower is also likely to make the ID.3 R almost as powerful as the VW Golf R - it can compensate for the power deficit with its huge initial torque and rear-wheel drive.
It all depends, of course, on whether Volkswagen’s management allows itself to be convinced, that is, whether market demand for a high-performance electric car is seen as assured.
