After the VW electric car has reached a new peak last year at Pikes Peak, next summer they want to run an electric circuit record at the Nürburgring.
The Volkswagen ID R and the four-time Le Mans winner Romain Dumas wrote a story last summer when Sébastien Loeb's five-year-old indestructible race in the Pikes Peak Mountain Race took off. Volkswagen was the first car to reach the top in 8 minutes.
The company has been developing its electric racing car since then and has already nominated the next top to be conquered: they want to make a round record at the Nürburgring. They do not want to reach an absolute peak, but I want to conquer the fastest electric car - it was set up in spring 2017 with a 1360 horsepower NIO EP9. The one and a half million dollar electric car ran for 20.8 kilometers in 6 minutes, 45.9 seconds, and it should be faster than Volkswagen.
ID R's peak performance is just over half of the EP9 of the NIO (670 hp), but its weight is much smaller (1110 vs. 1735 kg), it will be interesting to see how the challenge is dealt with by the German eco-race car.
