In two and a half years, their number has more than quadrupled.
Electromobility in Hungary reached an important milestone in May 2020: the number of green license plates reached 20,000, so in less than two and a half years the number of environmentally friendly cars in the country has more than quadrupled, writes the Electricians page.
The number of cars that can run solely on electricity has now risen to 9,018, bringing the proportion of the cleanest cars within our group of green cars to 45.1 percent; there has been no example of this since November 2018. Of the Plugin hybrid cars, 10,997 had a green license plate at the end of May.
The site noted that the growth rate has temporarily slowed down because there is currently no government tender to encourage the purchase of electric cars, but the next program will start next Monday.
The recently announced support program has a budget of HUF 5 billion, and the purchase amount can reach HUF 2.5 million below the purchase price of HUF 11 million per car. For cars priced between HUF 11-15 million, the same is a maximum of HUF 500,000. For taxi operators, state aid can be as much as 55 percent of the purchase price.
