You can also apply for the "Don't leave it in the car!" sticker - the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) informed MTI on Wednesday.
The office reminded: since 2017, their sticker campaign has been calling the attention of parents and farmers not to leave their children and pets in the car in the heat. With the arrival of summer, Nébih launched its sticker request interface again so that the key message can appear in as many places as possible.
They drew attention to the fact that it doesn't even take a heatwave for the temperature in a closed car standing in the sun to be life-threateningly high after even ten minutes. As an example, they mentioned that in 30 degrees Celsius heat, the interior of the car can heat up to 70 degrees Celsius in this time. A small child or pet exposed to such a high temperature can suffer serious health damage within a short period of time, and a few minutes of inattention can even result in death, they pointed out.
In order to prevent tragedies and to raise awareness as efficiently as possible, Nébih is waiting for the applications of catering and commercial places, as well as private individuals, who are ready to stick the sign "Don't leave it in the car!" in a clearly visible place (e.g. on the entrance doors of shops). sticker. Requests can be made by filling out the form on https://portal.nebih.gov.hu/ne-hagyj-az-autoban.
Nébih also drew attention to the fact that if the problem does happen, it does not hurt to be aware of the symptoms of heat stroke and what to do. Heat stroke is indicated if the dog looks frightened and confused, is restless or lies down, pants, breathes rapidly, bellows, drools or vomits, or its body temperature rises above 42 degrees. In such cases, the goal is to quickly and effectively reduce the body temperature while the dog gets to the vet.
Nébih pointed out: the best defense is prevention, so people should never leave their pets tied up in the hot sun or locked in a car. Do not let dogs run in the heat of the day, and walking is only recommended in the early morning and evening hours. Heart patients and elderly dogs should be given special care, as they are more sensitive to heat. A dog kept free in the garden should always have a shady, cool place where it can find shelter from the heat. They also recommended that there should always be fresh drinking water in the dog's drinking bowl, and since their appetite decreases in the heat, it is advisable to feed them in several portions, in the evening and in the morning.
