From the spring of 2022, thanks to Visa's technological solutions, European Mercedes-Benz owners will be able to pay for the goods and services they buy with their fingerprints while sitting in their car.
Mercedes-Benz customers will be able to pay in the UK and Germany, as well as in other European countries, using the in-car sensor. Purchases can be made directly through the vehicles' MBUX multimedia system. This solution is expected to be available later in other markets worldwide.
Built-in digital service has become an integral part of the luxury customer experience. Daimler Mobility’s global payment platform, “Mercedes pay,” for example, allows customers to purchase a variety of goods and services while sitting in their car, including “Mercedes me” services, fuel purchases, or parking.
“As an old partner of Daimler Mobility, we can jointly launch the first native solution for in-car payments. It is important to highlight that pilot testing and initial deployment activities will also take place in Europe, which is one of the world's leading centers for both payment technology and automotive innovation, ”said Antony Cahill, CEO of the card company in Europe.
They promise a smooth and safe purchase
Mercedes pay is part of the carmaker's mobility and digitalisation strategy and part of the Daimler Mobility business. Daimler will be the first automotive company to build a Visa Cloud Token framework in its vehicles. The Visa Cloud Token Framework is a cloud-based security technology that allows more flexibility across multiple devices.
The solution protects and removes confidential data from the payment process by converting it into tokens and storing it securely. It also allows you to pair multiple devices in and out of the car, integrating them directly with the customer’s bank credentials.
The result is a much smoother shopping experience that eliminates the lengthy data entry before each purchase, as well as the need to change devices for authentication. The solution is to start two-factor authentication.
Digital car shopping is promising for the future
In the next two years alone, the number of cars connected to the network worldwide is expected to grow to more than 352 million. The volume of car payments is expected to approach $ 86 billion by 2025.
Along with global mobility trends for electric vehicles, car sharing, self-driving and internet-connected cars, there is a growing demand for innovative in-vehicle payment solutions. Even today, when buying car-related services, in many cases the driver has to log in to a website or application with the help of a separate device - writes iotzona.hu.
