German police on Monday launched an investigation into the case of Czech billionaire Radim Passer, who was speeding at a top speed of 417 kilometers per hour on a German motorway and also posted a video of his feat on his YouTube channel.
As there is no general speed limit on motorways in Germany, the 58-year-old real estate magnate is not charged with speeding, the investigation was launched against him as a ‘suspected street car race’. The Magdeburg police announced the initiation of the proceedings.
Radim Passer, whose fortune is estimated at 100 billion forints, in July 2021 pushed the limits on the performance of Bugatti Chiron's supercar on the A2 motorway between Berlin and Hanover on a section where there are no speed limits.
Passer, the 33rd richest Czech, stressed that the recording, published two weeks ago, was taken on a ten-kilometer straight, three-lane section of the motorway with good visibility and that safety was a priority during the race.
A spokesman for the German Ministry of Transport covertly criticized the billionaire, saying the ministry “rejects any behavior that could endanger transport participants”.
As early as 1987, several German carmakers, including BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz, undertook to voluntarily limit the speed limit of their cars to 250 km / h. The 16-cylinder, 1,500-horsepower supercar, which the Czech millionaire was racing at a crazy pace, was launched in 2016 after Volkswagen bought the Italian luxury brand.
According to the dpa, in the Czech Republic, the case is being investigated to what extent Passer’s irresponsible bragging about the super-fast car is compatible with his Christian faith. The businessman's son converted to religion after his death in 1998, and also set up his own early Christian organization called Maranatha.
In connection with the incident, environmentalists have once again called on the federal government to introduce speed limits on highways for safety and climate protection reasons as well.
