Because of the Giro d'Italia road bicycle race, temporary road closures must be prepared in many places from Friday to Sunday, Magyar Közút Zrt. told MTI on Thursday.
During the three-day event, there will be complete road closures for several hours on the route of the competition on Friday on the Budapest-Székesfehérvár-Visegrád route, on Saturday in downtown Budapest, and on Sunday on the Kaposvár-Nagykanizsa-Balatonfüred route.
They drew attention to the fact that - according to the regulations of the competition - the affected sections must be closed almost 3 hours before the arrival of the cyclists, so they ask that those who can, avoid the area of the competition route. Those interested should be prepared for the fact that parking the car at the start and finish may take more time.
They pointed out that the finish line in Visegrad can only be reached on foot, which can take up to an hour from the ferry.
It is worth approaching the race sections of highway 71 on the Balaton Bike Circle.
On Friday, even more congestion than usual can be expected from Budapest in the direction of Dunaújváros, Székesfehérvár, and Szentendre. On this day, some junction branches on the southern section of the M0 motorway will also be closed.
A special train runs from Budapest to Nagymaros on Friday, from where a ferry takes the spectators to Visegrad. The ferry does not transport vehicles in the period before the arrival. The ferry also only transports spectators to Tihany on Sunday before the race, they said.
They added that on Friday in Budapest and on Sunday in Kaposvár, the road closures will start from 10 a.m. on the race route. During these times, some sections of the M1 and M7 motorways also operate as diversion roads.
It is worth getting information about the traffic situation affecting national roads before traveling at the road information service of Magyar Közút Nonprofit Zrt.
