A former factory racing car visited Hungary. One of the first Hyundai WRCs appeared on the Kakucs Ringen.
Thierry Neuville is a 13-time race winner and a five-time silver medalist at the end of the year at the World Rally Championship. Tibor Érdi Jr. is a three-time ERC2 European Champion. And from the end of December 2020, both pilots will have a common point of contact in their careers, namely the Hyundai i20 WRC.
The Belgian wheelchair juggler used casino 10 in three races in 2015, fourth in Finland, third in Sardinia with a 1.6 WRC, and then got rid of the left rear chassis in Argentina, zeroing the South American race. After the factory refurbished the car, it was avoided for the HMI Rally Team, the team that carries Hyundai’s customer program in Italy.
Subsequently, back in 2015, Haydon Paddon entertained the fans at RallyLegend and then Neuville at the Monza Rally Show. In six years, they started in a total of 45 races with the car and the 46th would have been deployed at the New Year's Rally, in the hands of Tibor Érdi, but due to the cancellation of the race, this did not happen.
On the other hand, the father of the three-time EC winner decided to bring the car to Hungary, and within the Kakucs Ring, a private partner car and a year-end ceremony, a few could admire the Korean manufacturer's first high-end rally car. The 1,650-pound car has a 1.6-liter turbo engine with 300 horsepower and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. Other elements of the powertrain are the six-speed transmission and four-wheel drive.
From the head of the HMI, Luca Murdolo, the guests also learned that in 2015, in accordance with the rules of the time, the i20 was still equipped with a traditional, lever sequential transmission, and after the aero-packed WRCs appeared in 2017, the little brother also received the butterfly gear placed next to the steering wheel of the newer WRCs. Well, the Érdi Rally Team entertained its guests with these masterpieces, which was a stylish end to the successful 2020 European Championship campaign.
