For the first time, a new development prototype of Mercedes has emerged from its cave. The purely electric big car will be the opponent of the Tesla Model S.
Bentley’s flagship, Mulsanne, is permanently retired. Bentley CEO Adrian Hallmark told Top Gear about this. For more than 100 years, these huge luxury limousines have provided the basis for the offering. This is what Bentley and Rolls-Royce became known for. About the strong, comfortable four-door. The world, on the other hand, is changing in a different direction and Mulsanne simply would not play a role in this.
“It’s the real symbol of how the automotive industry is changing,” Adrian Hallmark said. He also added that saying goodbye to the top model is not only sad, but also a huge challenge, as Flying Spur will have to take over part of its role.
Mercedes is expected to launch its electric sedan in 2022. As the unofficial but probable name, EQE, suggests, it will be a car about the same size as the E-Class, but completely emission-free. While the EQS electric luxury car is 5.2 meters long, its smaller brother is expected to remain below five meters. Due to the better use of space on the electric platform, the car can provide the space and comfort of the E-Class with a body that can be shorter than that.
EQS and EQE (let’s stay with this name) use the same platform, but different from the floorboard used by the brand’s electric recreational vehicles (EQC, EQA, EQB). The sedans will be given an “skateboard” with an aluminum structure and adjustable length, about which we do not yet have specific technical data. However, it is likely that the range of the EQE could reach 600 kilometers - at least in the Long Range design.
