The Formula One Committee of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) is proposing to hold three sprint race weekends in this year’s World Championship Series, and the top eight finishers in these short-distance races will earn World Cup points.
Mohammed ben Sulayem, the new president of the international federation elected on 17 December, also attended a meeting of the panel in London, the first of this year, according to a statement on the FIA website. The organization's Dubai director has "conducted a detailed dialogue" on what happened at last year's season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

According to the announcement, the committee reviewed the experience of its three sprint race races last season and also recommends sprint running at three GPs, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, the Austrian Grand Prix and the Brazilian Grand Prix for the 2022 season, with changes expected. Winning Friday's time trial will be the fastest pole position for Sunday's race, and in Saturday's sprint race, not only the podium finishers but the top eight will score 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. The official name will also change, this year it will no longer be a sprint qualification, but only sprint will be the name of Saturday’s short run.
After the Belgian Grand Prix last week was washed away by heavy rain, the committee also proposed a new protocol for such cases, according to which World Championship points cannot be awarded to riders and teams if the driver driving the race has not completed at least two laps in a safety car and / or without virtual security car section. According to the proposal, if the leading competitor has completed at least two laps, but less than 25 percent of the distance, the top five will receive World Cup points in the 6, 4, 3, 2, 1 distribution. If more than 25 but less than 50 percent of the total distance is covered by the first place by the forced knockout, the first-place finisher will score 13, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. If more than 50 but less than 75 percent of the planned distance is met, the top 10 will receive points in a 19, 14, 12, 9, 8, 6, 5, 3, 2, 1 distribution.
