From 2022, hybrid models will compete in the British Touring Car Championship. The prototype of the single hybrid component will be tested by Cosworks and Speedworks Motorsport, an old partner of Toyota, built into a Toyota Corolla.
Toyota Corolla hybrid on the race track - sounds good, too much to be true. Yet, but not at the same time.
The radically transforming BTCC (British Touring Car Championship) will switch to hybrid racing cars in two years. Each team receives a single, centrally secured hybrid unit with about 40 horsepower. They can use the acceleration tool for 15 seconds per turn - how the power is distributed within this is up to everyone.
The hybrid unit is being developed by Cosworth, along with Speedworks Motorsport, who have been racing Toyota for two years (as a quasi-official factory team for two years) and have also given the series a champion. This is probably why the Toyota Corolla was chosen as the test car.
